Have you ever wanted to tell someone to take a hike? Well, next week you will have a chance to do just that! National Take a Hike Day is celebrated on November 17th of each year, to encourage people to “Take a Hike.” Hiking is a popular outdoor activity that consists of walking in a natural environment, usually for long distances on trails over terrain where hiking boots may be required. Many beautiful places can only be reached overland by hiking, and enthusiasts regard hiking as the best way to see nature. There are many health benefits to be derived from hiking outside in the fresh air and sunshine. Besides the exercise, hiking is a good stress reliever and being out in nature can lift your spirits. Even though National Take a Hike Day officially falls on Tuesday, check with your local parks to see if they will be doing anything special to celebrate the holiday this weekend. Whatever you do, whether it’s a walk in the woods, a hike up your favorite mountain trail, or a leisurely stroll with the family around the neighborhood, this annual “holiday” provides the perfect excuse to head for the great outdoors. All you have to do is put one foot in front of the other and there you go. To inspire you, check out the “Top 10 Most Amazing Hikes in North America.”
